Causes of Blood in Male Cat Urine
by Mahi
(kolkata, india)
My male cat is 4 yrs old and is neutered. Since the last 4 to 5 days he is peeing everywhere. Last night I saw that his urine was red in color, probably it is blood.
This morning there was also blood in the cat urine. The amount of urine is not sufficient..otherwise he is normally eating and drinking.
What is the reason and could you suggest some home remedies.
I'm from India.
Thanks,
Mahi
Vet Suggestion Cat Blood in UrineHi Mahi,
The most likely cause of your cat’s symptoms is a condition called
feline urologic syndrome (FUS), but I can’t rule out
infection,
bladder stones,
urinary crystals, and other problems without an examination and some diagnostic testing.
Male cats with the symptoms you describe are at high risk for urinary blockage, a potentially life threatening condition, so I strongly encourage you to take him to a veterinarian immediately.
Some types of crystals and bladder stones can be dissolved by feeding cats a special diet or with medications, but surgery may be necessary in other cases. Blocked male cats need to be hospitalized for procedures to clear the urethra and allowing urine to drain, fluid therapy, and other treatments. Antibiotics are needed if an infection is present.
When no underlying cause can be uncovered for a cat’s symptoms, increasing water consumption (i.e., feeding canned food only), special diets, anti-inflammatories, and other medications can reduce the intensity and frequency of recurrences. Maintaining a low-stress lifestyle is also important.
