Reader Question: What Causes A Cat To Have Rustic Urine?

I have 2 cats that are indoor/ outdoor cats. All of a sudden we have one cat that is peeing in the laundry room and back bath on the tile. Never done this before. The urine is rusty looking, which makes me think she has blood in her urine. She eats well and acts fine. I have been giving her vitamin c with her food for a few days but it doesn’t seem to be doing well.

On limited funds and can’t afford vet. Can you help?

Veterinarian Answers Reader Question Regarding Cat's Rustic Urine

Hello,

I’m afraid you are going to have to see a veterinarian to diagnose and treat your cat’s condition. The presence of blood or pigments that result in rusty-colored urine can be a symptom of some very serious diseases. Many veterinarians are happy to set up payment plans and/or put clients in contact with companies that offer financing for veterinary care when money is tight. Delaying appropriate treatment for your cat will most likely only result in costlier care in the future and could put her long-term well-being at risk.
